Why would they do such a thing?

The motivation of the United States and Israel was to prevent China from gaining access to this technology. Twenty employees of Freescale Semiconductor, 12 Malaysians and 8 Chinese, who worked on advanced superconductive microchips for the U.S. Aerospace and Defense and knew how to harness zero-point energy, were defecting to China. China knew that the safest way to transport these individuals was through a commercial flight, as they assumed that the U.S. would not engage a commercial airliner. However, the U.S. military could not let these individuals flee to their strongest adversary; China gaining this technology was their worst nightmare. As you can see, they were willing to resort to extreme measures to prevent this. Obviously, this brazen attack did not stop China, and they figured out the technology anyway. You must also understand that the same insider threat programs used to track and annihilate these high-value employees were powerless against Matthew Livelsberger.
